This module aims to help you understand how strategic intent translates into coordinated project activity and to equip you with the tools to influence, shape, and lead strategic delivery within your organisation. You will explore how strategic benefits are identified, planned, and realised, and how effective benefits management strengthens organisational performance. You will examine how portfolios are shaped to balance opportunity, risk, and capacity, and how solution development supports the creation of viable, value?driven project options. The module also introduces you to the practicalities of resource capacity planning and resource management, enabling you to understand how organisations allocate, prioritise, and optimise scarce capability across competing initiatives.

BEMM854Z: Project Quality and Risk Management

Quality management will enable you to explore the principles of quality management and translate them into actions supporting project management success. Risk management will enable you to explore skills for identifying, analysing, planning, and managing project-related risks in terms of scope, schedule, quality, and cost performance. You will learn the critical management processes following the cycle of assessing, controlling, communicating, and reviewing quality-risk throughout the project lifecycle. Once completed, you will be able to recognise your own skills and the roles you can perform in ensuring that project delivery outcomes land smoothly with minimum risk exposure, with the agreement of the business areas and stakeholders, in a way that fully supports the strategy.

BEMM855Z: Governance and Financial Management for Projects

This module will enable you to evaluate and establish appropriate project governance through the incorporation of policies, regulations, processes, roles and structures in different project types and organisational structures, accepting that different sizes of organisation require different levels of control. It will also enable you to manage project budgets and costs within appropriate financial frameworks and how to report project performance, tailoring reporting requirements to comply with governance norms in the business. The module also prepares you to use change control to manage variations effectively. By the end, you will understand how robust governance and financial practices support successful and sustainable project delivery.

BEMM856Z: Responsible Project Leadership

Responsible Project Leadership enables you to develop the mindset and capabilities needed to lead projects ethically, sustainably, and with social accountability. The module explores responsible and inclusive leadership, conflict resolution, diversity and inclusion, sustainability, ethics, compliance and professionalism, and the integration of ESG principles into the project environment. You will learn how to navigate complexity with integrity, balance competing interests, and lead projects that create long-term value for organisations, communities, and the wider society.

This module aims to help you become a reflective, responsible project leader who can make principled decisions, foster inclusive project cultures, and guide teams through uncertainty with confidence and care. You will examine different leadership approaches and consider how they shape team dynamics, motivation, and performance. Through practical activities, you will develop strategies for managing conflict constructively and for creating psychologically safe environments where diverse perspectives are valued. You will explore how sustainability, ethics, and professionalism influence project choices, and how responsible leadership strengthens trust and accountability.

BEMM857Z: Project

You will undertake an independent research or consultancy project on a topic relevant to project management. Working at a postgraduate level, you will produce a 10,000-word report supported by appropriate analytical evidence, visualisations, and project-management artefacts. The project provides an opportunity to integrate and demonstrate the knowledge and skills developed throughout the programme, including project planning, governance, risk and issue management, stakeholder engagement, data interpretation, and professional communication. You may choose to investigate a real organisational challenge, explore an emerging theme in project management, or develop a consultancy-style intervention. Primary data collection is encouraged where appropriate, and you may engage directly with organisations seeking insight or support. In this module, you will start with a series of learning activities that will support you in developing research methods and ethics skills which you need for the project.
