Karime has undertaken a number of roles connected with the city of 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ for 23 years. Most recently, he was the Chief Executive and Growth Director of 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ City Council (May 2013 – March 2023) where he worked with partners across the city to develop 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ’s economy and vision for a healthy, inclusive and sustainable city. Karime was instrumental in overseeing the Council’s Passivhaus building programme and advancing the city’s sustainability goals with the establishment of 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ City Futures Community Interest Company.

He was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire for services to local government in the Queen’s New Year Honours in 2022.

Karime is a Fellow at the Centre for Leadership at the University of 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ Business School and was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ in 2019. He also holds a BA (Hons) in Town and Country Planning from Trent Polytechnic and an MSc Industry and Public Planning Policy from Loughborough University.
